Our history
The “La Foresta” hotel is located in the splendid biogenetic forest of Vallombrosa, created and cared for over the centuries by the Vallombross monks and declared a Natural Biogenetic Reserve in 1977.
The ample woodland complex extends over 1,300 acres (from 500 to 1450 metres above sea level) and is partly made up of established artificial pine woods (the oldest part was planted between the 16th and the 17th centuries) and partly in natural chestnut woods on the lowlands and beeches on the highlands, as well as lindens, maples, hornbeams and alders.
In the heart of the Vallombrosa forest, right in front of the "La Foresta" hotel, the famous Abbey rises, founded by St Giovanni Gualberto at the beginning of the XI century.
The Abbey preserves many important works of art and in the surrounding area you can find chapels, sanctuaries, crucifixes and fountains that re-evoke episodes and characters of some significant periods in Vallombrosa’s monastic history.
